Admissions Requirements

Individuals with a BS or BA degree in a scientific discipline may be admitted to the Graduate School as candidates for the MS degree although other degrees will be considered for strong candidates.

The department admissions committee, which makes admission recommendations to the chairperson, usually considers applicant's grade point average (minimum of 3.0 on 4.0 scale) and normally requires above-average performance in undergraduate course work (various disciplines within  chemistry as well as physics and mathematics), or evidence of high aptitude for graduate work in chemistry. Two letters of recommendation are required and international students must document English language proficiency by providing scores from an internationally accepted standard examination prior to an  admission decision. In some cases, the committee may require successful completion of undergraduate course work as a condition of enrollment as a regular student.
